From 1 to 7 July 2024, ProfiFoto presents 40 international photographers as part of the OFF program of the Rencontres d’Arles 2024 on the theme BENEATH THE SURFACE.
Carefully curated by Petra and Thomas Gerwers, the exhibition in the GALERIE LA GRANDE VITRINE* in the old town of Arles reflects the spectrum of contemporary, professional photography.
The opening will take place on July 1 from 6 p.m. in the presence of many of the exhibiting photographers. All exhibits are produced in museum quality by the online photo lab Whitewall, which specializes in high-quality gallery prints, which can be acquired on site. During the exhibition, specialists from WhiteWall and the innovative photo book publisher Snap Collective as additional cooperation partner will be available in the gallery. Snap Collective will publish a coffee-table book with all the images in the fall, which can be pre-ordered at a special price during the exhibition.
Almost 150 applicants took part in the call for entries, more than half of whom were female photographers. Most of the applicants came from Germany, followed by those from the USA and China. Photographers from Great Britain, Italy, Austria, Greece, Poland, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, France, Sweden, Brazil and Switzerland are also represented in the exhibition.
The co-curator of the exhibition, Petra Gerwers: „Arles is one of the most important and exciting photo festivals in the world. In the opening week alone, around 15,000 representatives of the international photography scene will attend, including not only photographers but also collectors, curators, publishers, exhibition organizers and gallery owners“.
ProfiFoto publisher Thomas Gerwers: „It is the dream of many photographers to be able to exhibit at the Rencontres Arles. We offer international photographers the opportunity to do so in a professional setting in our pop-up gallery. Since our debut in Arles in 2022, the project has matured significantly in terms of both quality and quantity.“
The ProfiFoto Pop Up Gallery is part of the festival’s OFF programme with over 100 exhibitions organized independently of the official Rencontres programme. In addition, book presentations, portfolio reviews and evening projections will take place in the ancient theater during the opening week.
